Denotation:
Model – they used one of the famous band to use for there cover because this show’s that they are updated and to show’s that they are somehow connected to the band making people who are fan of the band to buy their magazine.
Lightning – the magazine has that kind gradient effect on the background, giving a front lighting to make the band more appealing in the magazine cover. This show’s that the lightning is planned and done by a professional showing that The Source is also one of the music industry that wants to go to the top of the list.
Photography – the way the photo been taken is almost like one of the police conviction photo’s, because the photo is taken by the middle body. This show’s that this is one of the new style in the music magazine cover, telling everyone that there are new to the music industries but from the professional work of the cover it show’s that there are more advance just because their new.
Clothing – the main image are wearing there own style of clothing to show and represent there band. Showing the band has there own style of music just looking at their clothing appearance.
Location/Props – the band is placed on the middle of the magazine and it almost took the whole cover of the magazine but I think that is the purpose of that so that the magazine can add more Main Sells and Lure Sells, etc.. The way they put the Masthead are behind of the bands on top of the page, this make’s the masthead appealing to the eye and also make’s the audience interested because they will be wanting to know what is it says.
Connotation:
- The bands face appeal like there are the one who owns the music industries, they have relaxed and confident face impression.
- They have their hands inside their pockets and has the leaning posture this shows they are relaxed.
- Since this is band is from the US I will be guessing it’s more popular in US but it doesn’t mean there not famous on the other countries since US is hold’s a massive music industries this show’s that they are international.
- The way the band is presented is more like a normal people who ware plane hoodies and such, bleached jeans, hat.
KerrangDenotation:
Model – they used the main leader of the new growing famous band is the Fallout Boy, the way they used the leader for the cover is to show and represent his band.
The model licking on the ice cream making it goes with metaphor of the strap line “life is sweet”. Mostly when people listen to a band they listen to the lead vocalist.
Lighting – the lighting is mostly all over the model from the front, back, side & top, having the model wear a colourful shirt making him more appealing to the magazine cover. Having the white plain background for the cover of the magazine is very smart, this make’s the Main Sells and Lure Sells more appealing to the eyes of the audience, making the audience to really want to buy the magazine.
Photography – the way the photo is been taken is body chest to head, it’s more targeted to the model actions toward the ice cream. This make’s it appeal to the audience and the fan of the band.
Clothing – the clothing of the main model is just a plain t-shirt this show’s that the music magazine wasn’t interested in to the style of clothing is more to the music they make and to entertain people.
Location/Props – they placed the main model is more likely to the side right because the way the model posture is a diagonal posture this make’s it cover the page. The way the masthead placed on the top of the page behind the main model is just like common music magazine masthead layout.
Connotation:
- The main model’s appeal as just a relaxed normal people who eat ice creams.
- He show’s the tattoo on his hand to show his still different and not all people has a big tattoo going down there arm.
- Since almost famous rock bands are from US I will be guessing it’s more popular there. But since UK is just overseas it doesn’t mean they aren’t famous here.
- The way the main model is presented is just like a normal people with plain shirts, eating ice cream.
Q
Denotation:
Model – they used one of the famous bands in UK, to represent their magazine by putting them in the front cover. And to advertise the bands this will give more audience interested to the Magazine and the Band. The way the band leader presented in from of the other members of the band to make it look his in control of his band and they have control of what they do, they are not reckless other indie rock bands.
Lightning – from the views of their face shadows I will be guessing the lighting are from front top. To get the face more attention and to make it more appealing to the audience.
Photography – the shoot is taken from the mid range front, the image is taken just almost like a full body shoot, as just from their face impressions that they do not want any help or something, it show’s that they have control over everything and doesn’t need anyone to tell them what to do.
Clothing – almost every members of the band are wearing black tight jackets, showing they don’t spend much time and they show that fashion doesn’t really matters in music industries.
Location/Props – the band is placed bottom right, because it will take the whole cover of the magazine, then they wouldn’t have a place to put the other main sells and lure sells. Also it’s enough to show the other member from the back just to get what he look’s like and show’s his one of the member of the band. The masthead of this magazine is very different because the title of the magazine is just a simple letter “Q” and there’s a big space to put it in. They placed the masthead in the top left to make it appealing and also it doesn’t get covered by the band image.
Connotation:
- The main band appealing very focused on what they doing, they are looking straight forward to the camera to have that effect which where ever u place the magazine it make’s it look like there looking at you.
- The main leader of having that tattoo on his right hands and crossing it show’s his the leader of the band.
- Since this band is published at UK meaning it’s famous in Europe as well, this show’s it’s famous international since UK is also one of the biggest music industries in the world.
